Building Blocs recognizes that many young inner-city children enter the work force and begin their life, ill equipped on many levels. Compared to mainstream America, there are many financial discussions, business interactions and workplace experiences that these children have not been privy to. And we believe this puts them at an unnecessary competitive disadvantage.

Building Blocs has developed a three part approach that will aim to correct these deficiencies. The flagship program, 'Financial Literacy', will focus on covering necessary money management topics that many adults struggle with. By educating our youth on these topics, our graduates will;

  • Learn how to budget effectively
  • Avoid the credit card debt that suffocates many people
  • Understand just how important it is to start investing early
  • Become familiar with the banking system and learn how to exploit it
  • Gain knowledge of the benefits of home ownership, along with early preparation
  • Learn the lifelong importance of FICO score maintenance

    Building Blocs believes that by introducing these critical skill sets at an early point in the lives of these potential leaders, gives us the best chance of these skills 'sticking' for a lifetime.

    Additionally, Building Blocs will be offering two secondary, but just as needed, programs;

    Introduction To Entrepreneurship

    Building Blocs believes it is important to expose urban youth to alternative career paths. Part of the program will involve theoretical aspects of creating a business structure, managing operations, considering marketing strategies and profit management. Also, by having participants interact with successful business owners that look like them, we believe giving young adults more options will instill confidence.

    Workplace Skills

    If we take African American statistics as an example, while making up 13% of the US population, they usually represent less than 5%, and sometimes closer to 1% of most white collar environments. The transition from an urban environment into a white collar playing field is daunting at best and paralyzing at worst. Building Blocs is determined to teach these children how to survive and thrive in the mainstream business world.

    Collectively, Financial Literacy, Entrepreneurism and Workplace Skills will serve as solid platform that urban youth will be able to launch any dream from.
